Welcome to Danygraig Primary School - Swansea Sports Awards' Primary School of the Year 2005

Performing Arts at Danygraig

Choir

Danygraig Choir rehearse every week. They are led by Mrs Dawes and Mrs James. At present we are practising in readiness for a joint concert with Cefn Hengoed Comprehensive School and other local primary schools for a Summer concert at the Brangwyn Hall (see events page for details).

Our choir has a history of performing built up over a number of years. We have participated in the Evening Post Festival of Music with great enjoyment and success, having received a number of trophies and high praise from adjudicators for the standard of performances.

Our Year 6 children have, on two occasions, performed with other primary schools at the Taliesin Theatre.

Recorders
All children from years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to learn to play the recorder. Each class will, in turn, perform for the rest of the school as part of whole school assemblies.

In 2004 and 2005 our year 5 and 6 children took part in the Swansea Youth Music Festival - on both occasions they were awarded a Silver medal. The ensembles included descant, treble and tenor recorders and all played unaccompanied. This year they were proud to be awarded the Lord Mayor's Trophy for schools' music.

In addition to the class groups we also offer an early morning treble recorder group. The group meet before school starts and are led by Mrs Dawes.

Guitar group
A group of enthusiastic children meet Mrs Dawes regularly at lunchtime for lessons on playing chords to accompany songs. They perform for a variety of audiences.

Festivals and special assemblies
Singing and instrumental items play a major part in our celebrations at Harvest, Christmas and St David's Day.

Performing Arts
Each Spring term our year 5 children enjoy a residential week at Danycoed where they develop dance, drama and music skills.
