Ourselves/People Who Help Us

Dear Parents,

 

This term we are learning through the topics ‘Ourselves’ and ‘People who help us’.

In Mathematical Development we will be focusing on:

 

  • Numbers 1-10: focusing on order, sequence, recognition, writing, counting and position. We will reinforce this by singing number rhymes, playing matching games
  • Shape and Space: reinforcement of 2b shapes with shape hunts, feely bags, painting/drawing, playing pairs
  • Colours: matching and sorting using jigsaws, puzzles, dominoes
  • Sequencing and creating patterns

 

In Language, Literacy and Communication we will be focusing on:

  • Write Dance - a music and movement programme for the development of pre-writing and writing skills.
  • Initial sounds: i, t, p, s, a, t, and the correct formation using play dough, chalks
  • Stories: ‘Stone Soup’, ‘The Little Red Hen’, ‘All About Me’, ‘The Gingerbread Man’.
  • Sequencing activities - stories, pictures
  • Role-Play areas: Home corner, Hospital, Fruit Shop, Construction. Welsh.
  • In Knowledge and Understanding of the World we will be focusing on:
  • Naming body parts
  • Self portraits
  • Sequencing photographs of themselves - timeline
  • Finding their way in familiar surroundings
  • developing an awareness of roles of familiar people and people who help us
  • We will use ICT in a creative way and develop early mouse skills

 

In Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity we will be focusing on:

  • Independence: personal hygiene, personal safety, putting shoes on/off independently etc
  • Expression and communication: understanding their own feelings and that of others, e.g. understanding what is right and wrong.
  • ‘Harvest’ and ‘The Little Red Hen’ - The process of making bread
  • ‘Rosh Hashanah’ - Hindu New Year, ‘Christmas’ - The Nativity

 

In Physical Development we will be focusing on:

  • Gross motor skills: using large apparatus encouraging children to use all parts of their bodies to move around, balancing, hopping, jumping
  • Ball skills: throwing/catching large and small balls or objects eg. bean bags
  • Fine motor skills - developing manipulative skills through creative and constructive activities, e.g. threading, jigsaws, holding pencils/paintbrushes/scissors, etc correctly, playdough
  • Dance: developing control by linking movements to create a series of changing body shapes. bevelop their responses to different stimuli such as music, pictures words and ideas.

In Creative Development we will be focusing on:

  • Free and directed paintings/drawings
  • Printing using vegetables, leaves, shapes
  • Making music instruments to create sounds
  • Developing confidence joining in with simple action rhymes and songs
  • Exploring autumn colours
  • Modelling with play dough
  • Welsh Development
  • Incidental daily Welsh eg. Sut mae tywydd heddiw? Bore da/Prynhawn da, answering the register - yma Mrs Sanders, da iawn diolch, Helpwr Heddiw, counting 1-5, colours.
  • Morning/afternoon song in Welsh/English and any other languages of children in the class.
  • Welsh songs. We will learning Welsh vocabulary through the characters Tedi Twt and ‘Fflic a Ff lac’.

 

Also during the term we will out and about our local area’ looking at the different ways we travel to school and visiting ‘Jersey Park’ to look at the ‘seasonal changes’.

P.E. will be on Friday Afternoons, children will not require a P.E. kit but if you could ensure that you child wears appropriate clothing on these days eg. joggers, t-shirt, trainers.

 

During this term we will be spending time outside in our ‘outdoor classroom’ and ‘Early Years’ garden to enhance the children’s development. We venture out in all weathers so children will need to have a pair of Wellington boots in school at all times. Please can you make sure your child’s name is on them.

 

Please can you ensure your child has a reading folder as C.A.P.E.I books are available for the children to take home and read. Please ensure that they bring in their folders on Friday.

As you can see we have a very busy term ahead of us.
